ROLE SUMMARY
Within the Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU), the Metabolism and Mass Spectrometry lab is focused on providing decision-making data in the identification / validation of new targets, and the development of new compounds for the treatment of metabolic diseases including cachexia, HFpEF, and NAFLD/NASH. We are seeking motivated self-aware individuals with excellent oral and written communication skills, a deep interest in metabolism and biological sciences. The successful candidate will have skill sets in chemical derivatization, analytical chemistry, and liquid chromatography / mass spectrometry. The successful candidate will be able to learn new techniques quickly as needed to support projects. The candidate will be involved in research projects from early target validation to drug development and function in a team environment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently operate (U)HPLC / Thermo Orbitrap MS for the detection of metabolites and lipids, troubleshooting instrumentation as needed
- Optimize chemical derivatization procedures on small molecules and lipids
- Perform metabolite extractions on biological samples including cells and tissue samples
- Aid in the development, optimization and validation of new LC/MS methods
- Analysis of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo samples to assess effect of target modulation, and to identify biomarkers of target engagement and efficacy
- Perform regular upkeep and troubleshoot LCMS instrumentation as needed, including (U)HPLCs and Thermo Orbitraps
- Communicate and present data to project teams
- Maintenance of laboratory notebook records and adherence to safety policies is strictly required
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry with 3+ years of lab experience
- Previous experience in applied LC-Orbitrap MS, & general analytical chemistry techniques
- Experience with organic chemistry, or chemical derivatization
- Successful completion of Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry courses
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- General knowledge of cellular metabolism
