Open Faculty Recruiting
Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed) is seeking to double its faculty over the next 8 years by recruiting faculty to enhance and expand each of the institute’s recently defined research programs in Host-Pathogen Interactions, Disease Intervention and Prevention, and Population Health (https://www.txbiomed.org/research/). Successful candidates will be expected to synergize with faculty and staff in existing Programs to foster Texas Biomed efforts to become national/international leaders in infectious disease research, including susceptible populations. Texas Biomed is a free standing, private research institute. It supports ABSL3 and ABSL4 facilities with unparalleled resources, and is the host institution of the Southwest National Primate Research Center. It has longstanding partnerships with UT Heath SA and UTSA and its campus is on the west side of beautiful San Antonio, TX.
Texas Biomed’s goal is to enhance all of its three programmatic areas with strong, established faculty of all ranks. However, current priorities include the following:
Faculty at any rank – Viral Pathogenesis
Texas Biomed seeks to recruit faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to develop/expand a successful and impactful independent research program that will be supported by federal and independent agency funds. Research interests can include basic research on viral interactions with host, development of vaccines or therapeutics for viral infection, or the study of viral communities in line with our institutional programs. Examples include mechanisms of virus cell entry, the impact of viral infection on non-communicable diseases, and protective immunity to viral infections.
Faculty at any rank – Contract Research
Texas Biomed has a robust relationship with a number of industry partners in diagnostics, therapies and vaccines and supports a faculty track in contract research. The institute seeks to recruit faculty at any rank that will assume a primary role in the translational/contract research arm of the institute; preparing and submitting applications for RFPs, developing contract study scope, performing research, preparing scientific reports, and working within the guidelines of regulated studies. Expertise can include prior research or contract studies using a variety of animal models (non-human primates, rodents, etc.), in vitro models, and a variety of infectious agents including select agents. Opportunities to develop a research program in parallel are available.
Qualifications: M.D., Ph.D. and/or DVM in Microbiology, Immunology, Genetics, or other related fields. Demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently-funded research program. Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
