We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished investigative scientist to join our team in Global Pathology and Investigative Toxicology in Drug Safety Research and Development, La Jolla CA. Investigative Toxicology designs and carries out investigative studies to explore underlying mechanisms for toxicity findings to advance molecules in preclinical and clinical development. We are seeking an individual contributor with strong critical thinking skills and a track record of mechanistic investigations using cellular and molecular biology approaches. The successful candidate will have a strong background in novel in vitro model development, fit for purpose assay design, high content cell imaging technics, and hypothesis-driven mechanistic research.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reports to a Director in Investigative Toxicology.
  • Lead high content cell imaging technology development and data analysis.
  • Independently generates high quality laboratory-based investigative data to support portfolio progression and/or mechanistic understanding of toxicity findings.
  • Participates in issue management teams, work cross functional lines collaboratively as part of a global multi-disciplinary team.
  • Develops novel in vitro models and fit for purpose in vitro or in vivo endpoints.
  • Mentors and cross-trains other investigative toxicology colleagues.
  • Communicates experimental findings accurately and concisely in both oral and written formats; analyzes, documents and reports laboratory data in accordance with company standards and procedures.
  • Represents Pfizer at external scientific meetings and consortia, demonstrate external engagement through high impact scientific publications.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD degree in Pharmacology, Toxicology, Cell or Molecular Biology required.
  • Expertise in high content cell imaging and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard investigative laboratory capabilities, including cellular (primary cell culture), biochemical (enzymatic, plate-based assays), and molecular (PCR, western blot) techniques.
  • Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations related to investigative work.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-doctoral trainings or 1-2 years of pharmaceutical industry experiences preferred.
  • Targeted gene knockdown techniques using siRNA, lentiviral or CRISPR.
  • Primary cell isolation, organoid or 3D cell model development.
  • Experiences in therapeutic areas such as oncology, inflammation/ immunology, and Rare Disease.
