The Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Freiburg together with the Cluster of Excellence "Living, Adaptive and Energy-autonomous Materials Systems" (livMatS) are seeking applications from qualified applicants for a W3 Professorship for “Active Soft Matter”. This professorship will be installed at the Institute for Macromolecular Chemistry and will be deeply imbedded in the DFG excellence cluster livMatS. Individuals with a strong research and scholarly background in macromolecular sciences with demonstrable expertise in soft matter (synthetic or bio-based polymer) synthesis, characterization and/or application are encouraged to apply. Research areas of interest include smart, adaptive and responsive polymer systems (for example energy activatable systems, far-from equilibrium systems, shape memory polymers, mechanosensitive hydrogels, bioinspired and biomimetic systems and others). The individual should have a strong track record in research and teaching. The professorship, as part of an excellent research environment (livMatS cluster, Freiburg Materials Research Centre (FMF), Freiburg Centre for interactive materials and bioinspired technologies (FIT)), will establish an internationally competitive research programme in the field of active soft matter with solid third-party funding and will strategically complement the research programme of the livMatS cluster. The professorship is to take on teaching responsibilities at both the B.Sc. and M.Sc. level in the field of macromolecular chemistry (including in the Master program "Sustainable Materials", profile line "Polymer Sciences") and proficiency in written and spoken German is highly desirable.
