The Center of Emphasis in Diabetes and Metabolism at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso’s Paul L. Foster School of Medicine invites applications for 3 tenure-track positions at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor level. The department seeks individuals with Ph.D., M.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or equivalent degrees with expertise and a record of accomplishments in one or more of the following areas. An emerging or established regional or national reputation is required for the ranks of associate professor or higher.

Basic and/or Translational Research: Candidates are expected to have research experience pertinent to diabetes, obesity, or related areas of investigation with expertise in one or more of the following areas: disease mechanisms and pathophysiology, early disease development and progression; biomarker development; proteomics; metabolomics; genomics; diagnostics; or experimental therapeutics. A minimum of 3-year postdoctoral biomedical research experience and a record of peer reviewed publications in the area of diabetes, obesity and/or related metabolic disorders are also required. Areas of preferred interest are: islet cell biology, including beta-cell differentiation and regeneration; mechanisms of insulin resistance and glucose intolerance; metabolic consequences of sleep-disordered breathing, including sleep apnea; genetics, genomics, and/or epigenetics of diabetes and related metabolic disorders. Board certification by one of the ABMS member boards and a full unrestricted Texas medical licensure are required for M.D. or M.D.-Ph.D. candidates wishing to engage in optional part-time clinical service. Clinical Research: Candidates are expected to have clinical research experience in at least one of the following areas: the study of insulin sensitivity and/or secretion in human subjects; the study of obesity, its causes, co-morbidities and treatment in adults or children; the study of metabolic syndrome, prediabetes and related co-morbidities in human subjects; the evaluation of new biomarkers, diagnostics and/or therapeutics for diabetes and/or obesity, including clinical trials. Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited graduate medical training, board-certification by the one of the ABMS member boards are also required. Candidates must hold or be eligible for a full unrestricted Texas medical licensure. Areas of preferred interest are: expertise with performing and interpreting direct measurements of insulin sensitivity in human subjects (euglycemic clamp, intravenous glucose tolerance test or related measurements); experience with interventions to prevent or manage insulin resistance, prediabetes, diabetes and/or obesity in the pediatric population; experience with the diagnosis, staging and management of hepatic steatosis.
