The Head, Field Medical Oncology Care Team will manage the field medical Oncology Care Team Directors (1st line leaders) and help drive a high performing Field Medical Care Team organization in alignment with medical and account strategy. The Head, Field Medical Oncology Care Team will be accountable to ensure development and execution of the national field medical care team's strategy and vision to ensure the team delivers an aligned medical account plan for prioritized Academic Medical Centers (AMCs), Large Community practices, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), and other priority healthcare and research accounts. The Head, Field Medical Oncology Care team will ensure the team has strong cross-functional understanding of organizational account priorities and strategic opportunities, ability to lead and sponsor innovative account deliverables, demonstrates deep understanding of the external healthcare landscape, and is able to collect and translate high quality medical voice of customer (mVoC) and patient journey insights, and demonstrate medical engagement impact with various external organizations and stakeholders (including population based health decision makers, pathway leaders, C-suite, health economics value teams, cooperative group leaders, and research networks, etc.) The Head will also be accountable for medical governance and compliance for the Field Medical Oncology Care Team.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

1. Drive the development of a high performing team. Includes hiring, recruiting, ongoing performance and talent assessment and development.
2. Partner with US Head of Oncology Field Medical and US Oncology Medical Affairs Head to develop and execute a national field medical account strategy; Provide strategic oversight and direction to first line leaders as they drive Care Team Lead account plans and priority account activities.
3. Make account coverage and prioritization decisions to aligned with overall Oncology strategy. Collaborate with medical and commercial stakeholders on account strategy; develop specific field medical plans and objectives to support overall organizational strategy.
4. Serve as strategic partner for launch preparation plans and activities aligned to the priority account strategy while aligning with MSL leaders and differentiating with MSL activities and stakeholders to deliver synergistic support of broader account initiatives; Ensure first line leaders coordinate and guide activities across Care Team leads and ensure team compliance with ways of working. The Head is also accountable for overall field team preparation and sign-off of area priority medical account plans and related medical activities as well as leading executive level presentations and discussions as needed.
5. Establish and maintain robust Matrix Partnerships to ensure strategic alignment, sharing of best practices, standardization where appropriate, and visibility to the performance of the organization. Key partners include: Oncology Medical and field medical MSL leadership, Account Care Team Commercial Head and leadership, Sales and Account Management field leaders, Engagement and Insights Group Head, Value evidence teams, Health Outcomes liaison leaders, MI Leaders, and other internal partners crucial to field-team account success.
6. Develop plans that drive and ensure consistency with implementation of key foundational processes for the Medical Oncology Care Teams. Drive the execution of listening priorities and the delivery of excellent mVoC through the field medical team and lead medical account initiatives at accounts related to the patient and provider journey within priority accounts.
7. Ensure mVoC obtained, ensure teams possess full understanding of the evolving health care environment and key customer accounts, organizations, and segments.
8. Accountable for ongoing validation of Oncology Medical Care Team's resourcing and deployment model for assigned teams (priority accounts, territories, territory assignments, territory sizes, account stakeholder identification and engagement, focused external field activities; Accountable for developing and overseeing the Medical Care Team's budget and resources within goal. Make strategic adjustments to budget to meet needs of overall USMA budget.
9. Routine obtain feedback and show agility to ensure Medical Care Team contributing high value internally and externally, contribute to the design/development/planning of innovative solutions; Lead and develop systems to maintain standards and ensure compliance with the FDA and any similar regulatory or GSK processes; Accountable for ensuring all Governance/Monitoring/Compliance objectives and CIA requirements are met and adhered to. Ensure a “Speak Up” culture that encourages open dialogue to maintain a high integrity working environment.
10.Drive positive team collaboration within accounts and help ensure robust alignment and routine engagement with MSLs and MSL leaders within each priority account; ensure accountability to ways of working within medical, MSLs, commercial, etc. and remove barriers to compliant collaboration. Lead with a one GSK mindset and hold others accountable for teamwork and shared vision and goals for success at key accounts and key customers. Lead organization from a values based platform aligned with GSK Values of Transparency, Respect, Integrity and Patient focus.

11. As a member of the Field Medical Leadership team and Medical Affairs extended leadership team, actively contribute and ensure robust strategic account perspective, understanding of key account insights/mVoC, and help identify and advocate for innovative medical opportunities with accounts in support of GSK's strategic imperatives and Care Team goals.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • PhD, PharmD or physician (M.D. or equivalent) or advanced scientific degree in healthcare
  • Designing and delivering medical affairs plans; coordinating medical engagement activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Oncology, account management, the healthcare landscape, and patient care
  • Familiarity with the key medical/scientific experts and key accounts, AMCs, IDNs within Oncology.
  • 8 or more years of pharmaceutical industry experience
  • 5 or more years infield medical leadership/people management or similar role; 3 or more years of field medical account experience
  • Ability to travel with field team members to support and attend prioritized account meetings
  • Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability to communicate complex information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Oncology experience is required


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Doctorate PhD, PharmD or physician (MD or equivalent)
  • Health economics and outcomes research expertise
  • 3 or more years of leading and development field medical account-based teams
  • Experience in scientific alliances and collaborative agreements
  • Experience as a population-based health decision maker (formulary, P&T, IDNs, etc.)
