Faculty Position in Brain Cancer Research – Virginia Tech

Partnership with Children’s National Hospital

Virginia Tech (https://vt.edu/) is recruiting to fill a tenure track assistant professor faculty position in brain cancer research in partnership with the Children’s National Hospital (CNH - https://childrensnational.org/).  Candidates at a more senior level may also be considered.  This new faculty position represents part of a major collaborative research initiative between VT and CNH.  The position will be located in Virginia Tech’s laboratory facilities at the new Children’s National Research and Innovation Campus (CNRIC - https://childrensnational.org/news-and-events/photo-gallery/research-and-innovation-campus-virtual-tour) in Washington DC.  The position will be on the tenure track at Virginia Tech and part of the university’s Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI - https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/) that primarily operates in Roanoke, Virginia on the VT Health Sciences and Technology campus but will have a growing presence on the CNRIC in Washington, DC.

Applicants should have an earned doctorate (PhD, MD and/or DVM), postdoctoral research experience, a demonstrated record of accomplishment of research productivity through major publications and either active major extramural funding (preferably from NIH) or strong evidence of the likelihood of obtaining such funding in the near term. The new faculty member will join teams of successful brain cancer researchers at Virginia Tech’s FBRI and across multiple colleges and at the CNRIC.   Successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain a high-quality, extramurally-funded research program and participate in some teaching of graduate students as well as research mentoring of undergraduate, graduate and medical students.  A  competitive salary, space, and start-up package will be provided.

The faculty member can draw from an outstanding and diverse pool of students to work with them in their research program. Specifically, Virginia Tech has over 6,000 graduate students and offers graduate programs in multiple biomedically-related disciplines, particularly the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Heath (http://www.tbmh.vt.edu) and the Molecular and Cellular Biology (https://www.mcb.vt.edu) graduate programs.  In addition, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is one of the nation’s most research intensive medical schools where every medical student carries out four years of research under faculty mentorship

The CNRIC is located in Washington, DC sited on the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus in a newly renovated phase one research building with state of the art facilities, including adjacent teams of researchers from CNH’s rare disease institute.  Other floors of the phase one building will house Johnson and Johnson’s J-Lab (https://jlabs.jnjinnovation.com/locations/jlabs-washington-dc) and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority program.
