Research Assistant II
Molecular Biology and Cellular Biology Procedures
1. Organizes and performs routine procedures involving molecular biology and biochemistry of RNA, DNA and proteins. Other techniques not listed here may also be performed.
2. Requires knowledge of and safe use of a variety of laboratory equipment; such as high-speed centrifuges, pH meters, and SDS-PAGE and agarose gel apparatus.
3. Maintains accurate and detailed experimental records.
Computational Procedures
1. Techniques to include; building databases of patient information.
2. Bioinformatic and/or statistical analyses of datasets from laboratory generated samples or primary human tissue.
3. Use of appropriate software tools for the requested methods.
4. Preparing reports describing samples and analyses, and organizing data for sharing in collaborations or publications.
5. Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project.
General Laboratory Duties
1. Maintains accurate, detailed records and experimental data and protocols.
2. Prepares graphs, slides, and tables via photography, computer, or manually.
3. Communicates results to and understands instructions from the principal investigator and colleagues. Fluent spoken and written English is essential.
4. Attend weekly lab meetings and weekly individual/project meetings.
5. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences. Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
