Postdoctoral Position Available

Postdoctoral position available in Dr. Jiang Zhu's laboratory for highly motivated candidates who are interested in vaccine development for viral (HIV, HCV, Ebola, RSV, Flu, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-1/2) and non-viral (malaria and tuberculosis) pathogens. Postdoctoral salary is in the range of $58,240 to $60,000 depending on prior research experience and qualifications. Dr. Zhu holds a joint appointment in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology (ISCB) and the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA (https://www.scripps.edu/). Dr. Zhu is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Southwest National Primate Research Center). The Zhu lab has developed vaccine candidates for SARS-CoV-2 and HIV-1, which will start human trials in 2021 and 2022 with the sponsorship of UVax Bio and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), respectively. Research projects may involve, but are not limited to, (1) virology: infections and diseases caused by RSV, HIV Ebola, and Coronavirus; (2) vaccine delivery: development of mRNA vaccines and viral vector-based vaccines; (3) structural biology: crystallographic and electron microscopic analyses of antibody/antigen complexes; and (4) immunology: immunological analysis of vaccine-induced response in animal models and humans.

Successful candidates will have a recent Ph.D. in virology, microbiology, immunology, structural biology, or other related fields. Candidates with prior research experience in RSV, HIV, and Ebola vaccines are especially encouraged to apply.
