ROLE SUMMARY

A histotechnologist is needed to support the conversion of pre-clinical immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) targets into clinically-relevant diagnostic assays for the detection of protein and nucleic acid targets in human tumors for purposes of patient stratification and prediction of response to novel oncology therapeutics. Special consideration will be given to candidates who also have advanced degrees and a demonstrated ability to independently plan and conduct tissue-based immunoassay development experiments.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Traditional histology, including formalin fixation, processing, blocking, and cutting of cell blocks, xenografted tumors, and commercially-acquired human tumors.
  • Transition research immunoassays onto clinical platforms, including Ventana Ultra, Dako Autostainer, and Leica Bond (special consideration given to those candidates who can independently develop immunoassays on these clinical platforms).
  • Perform routine histochemical, immunohistochemical, and in situ hybridization assays on cell lines, xenografted tumors, and human tumors in a non-regulated histology laboratory.
  • Work cooperatively with internal and external pathologists and pathology laboratory support staff to ensure that clinical assays are outsourced to CLIA-regulated laboratories for dose expansion clinical trials.
  • Perform digital slide scanning.
  • Work cooperatively with image analysis scientists to enable semi-quantitative assessment of diagnostic targets.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science and 5 - 7 years of relevant histotechnology experience.
  • Special consideration given to those candidates with a histotechnology background plus experience in tissue-based biomarker assay development in cancer research.
  • Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures, equipment, and testing to monitor control checks.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications.
  • Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests and operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Ability to listen, read, understand, and follow oral, and written instruction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, physicians, vendors, clients, and external agencies.
