Two postdoc positions are available in Jiri Lukas group (Chromosome Stability and Dynamics) at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen.

Research area
The main interest of the Lukas lab is how genome integrity maintenance organizes itself in the three-dimensional space of the cell nucleus, and how malfunctions of these mechanisms impact on etiology of diseases marked by unstable genomes. Most recently, our lab became focused on hitherto poorly understood feature of genome maintenance, namely the impact of heritable chromosomal lesions on long-term cellular fitness. To generate a competitive niche in this area, the Lukas laboratory has pioneered real-time and highly quantitative light microscopy techniques combined with genome editing and computation-based phenotypic readouts. We are now looking for postdocs who would be interested in combining these approaches with advanced genomics to understand how the ensuing generations of human cells deal with heritable DNA and chromatin damage.

The positions are available in summer 2021. The exact starting dates are flexible and could be negotiated.

Qualifications
Candidates for the postdoctoral positions must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). The successful candidates are expected to demonstrate tractable achievements in genome integrity research (original discoveries published as first authors in peer-reviewed international journals) and demonstrate a broad range of skills in light microscopy and genomic techniques. Specifically, we are looking for experience within the following areas:

  • Conceptual insight into DNA damage signaling, DNA repair, chromatin biology, and cell cycle regulation
  • Hands-on experience with light microscopy, preferentially with a focus on imaging techniques designed to interrogate regulation of genome maintenance in real time and in 3D nuclear space
  • Proficiency in wide range of molecular techniques to genetically manipulate/edit human genome and solid background in setting up/interpreting genomic approaches

The new postdocs will work closely with their mentors and peers while having sufficient freedom to develop their projects. The Lukas lab is very interactive and the successful candidates are expected to actively integrate to this collaborative spirit. They are also expected to disseminate their discoveries on internal seminar series and by active participation on international workshops and conferences.

Place of employment and work
The employment is at CPR www.cpr.ku.dk, a Novo Nordisk Foundation center of excellence established in 2007 and embedded in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center comprises modern laboratories, supercomputer resources and state-of-the-art technological platforms including advanced protein imaging. CPR is an interdisciplinary international environment with English as the main language. We are located in central Copenhagen, a city with one of the highest qualities of life in the world and a vibrant and highly interactive research environment. The University of Copenhagen has a strong focus on balancing professional life with a family-friendly working environment https://www.ism.ku.dk/faq.

Terms of salary and employment
