Computational Scientist - Center for Protein Degradation

The Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) seeks a highly motivated individual to join the team as a computational scientist to apply and develop computational approaches to mine proprietary and public proteomics, genomics, and pharmacological data to evaluate and identify potential therapeutic targets uniquely suitable for degradation. The candidate will develop strong working relationships with biologists, biochemists, and chemists to support target validation and nomination with strong data driven rationale.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Deerfield Management have entered a multi-year collaboration to create the Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) at DFCI led by Drs. Eric Fischer, Nathanael Gray and Lyn Jones.  The goals of the Center for Protein Degradation are to create a next-generation protein degrader platform and interrogate and advance a large portfolio of protein degrader targets.   This is an exceptional opportunity to join a newly founded research center that is pushing the boundaries of targeted protein degradation research and accelerating the translation of basic science into clinical solutions.


The ideal candidate has a strong working experience in integrated analysis of large-scale data sets. The candidate will apply and create new algorithms for integrated data analysis to provide novel biological insights into the relationship between target degradation and related human diseases.


  • Take an independent and active role in developing algorithms to identify targets most suited for protein degradation
  • Work closely with experimental scientists to develop and validate target hypothesis with strong data driven rationale.
  • Support the needs of multiple small molecule degrader discovery projects by providing biological insights and identifying strong biomarkers
  • Independently plan, manage, and perform research and projects.  Develop project proposals, timelines and resource needs.  Monitor milestones and ensure deliverables are completed on time.
  • Interact and liaise with internal and external experts, academic groups to establish collaborations and projects
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of research work (e.g., research methods, codes, results/findings)


  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, applied mathematics, or related data science fields
  • Extensive working knowledge in analyzing large scale data sets
  • Programming/scripting skills are essential for this position
  • Must demonstrate outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with machine learning is desired
