Assistant or Associate Project Scientist - Neuroimaging

University of California San Diego

The Center for Multimodal Imaging and Genetics (CMIG) and the Department of Radiology (http://radiology.ucsd.edu) at UC San Diego are conducting an open search for Project Scientists (non-tenured Assistant or Associate level).

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and validation of innovative neuroimaging methods for improved analysis of MRI brain imaging data, with potential research topics including structural MRI, diffusion MRI, functional MRI, and cross-scanner harmonization. The role offers the opportunity to work with leaders in neuroimaging software development and analysis and to be part of large, multi-site, longitudinal research studies.

CMIG leads the Data Analysis, Informatics, and Resource Center (DAIRC) of the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study, an ongoing, NIH-funded study to follow ~12,000 children with longitudinal neuroanatomical and functional imaging across 21 sites within the US. The major goals of the study are to provide a publicly available data resource to examine the influences of genetics and environmental factors, including substance use, on brain and cognitive development. To learn more about our project, please see the ABCD Study website (https://abcdstudy.org/).

Requirements:
  • A PhD or equivalent degree in engineering, computer science, or a physical science
  • Postdoctoral research experience in structural MRI analysis methods, e.g., segmentation, atlas and longitudinal registration; advanced modeling for diffusion MRI; functional MRI analysis methods, e.g., task-based deconvolution, connectivity analysis; or multimodal MRI and cross-scanner harmonization
  • Experience with FreeSurfer, FSL, AFNI, and/or the HCP analysis pipeline
  • Extensive experience with Matlab, Python, C/C++ or other relevant programming languages
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to plan, prioritize and keep multiple projects/tasks moving forward at once
  • A track record of documented productivity

Appointment will be at Assistant or Associate Project Scientist level based on background and experience.
