Chair of Pharmacology

The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology.

UTHSA is a comprehensive academic health university and research center in South Texas. One of six health institutions in The University of Texas System, UTHSA is the primary source of health professions, education and life sciences research in the region and is a major center for patient care UTHSA combines scientific discovery with clinical care in innovative and transformative ways. Ranked #14 in NIH funding, the Department of Pharmacology is home to robust research and training programs committed to developing the next generation of biomedical research scientists. A major strength of the department is its nationally prominent research portfolio in neuropsychopharmacology. In addition, there are strong programs in drug discovery relevant to cancers, aging, diabetes and metabolic diseases.

Reporting to the Dean, the Chair will provide vision, innovation and leadership to the Department. The Chair will work closely with the Department and School of Medicine, leadership, faculty and staff and is responsible for the Department's overall administrative and academic activities of the Department.

The ideal candidate must hold a terminal degree in biomedical sciences and/or an MD degree and possess a national reputation for scholarly activity and a continuous track record of funding, ideally with active NIH-funded research programs. The Chair will possess exceptional communication skills and have the ability to promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusion across the Health Science Center.
