An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional Head of Licensing & Ventures who will work closely with his/her partners in scientific research units to deliver commercial success strategies across the licensing at Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU). The role will involve providing day-to-day leadership to a highly capable group, helping them to achieve the goals of the HMGU in turning some of the world’s most exciting technologies into commercial reality.

100039 Your responsibilities
- Leading and inspiring the team to ensure that they are highly motivated, skilled and developing professionally
- Collaborating with the CEO and the Scientific Management Team to set group goals and ensuring that the budgets are managed effectively
- Developing strong relationships of influence with senior and high-profile stakeholders both internally within the HMGU and externally (e.g. with funders, investors, industry partners and patient groups)
- Working closely with the HMGU scientific research units to deliver strategic initiatives to translate its research outputs into real world impact
- Turning great ideas into viable commercial actions
- Your qualification
Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will come from a strong technology industry background and have experience of commercialising life science innovations and IP, including those originating from sciene, and ideally including spin-outs / start-ups. Particularly desirable is direct industry experience of drug discovery / development / translational medicine, and of negotiating associated licensing and collaboration agreements. The candidate will have a degree in economics or natural sciences degree and ideally a PhD or equivalent. Helmholtz Zentrum München is looking for a versatile person who has the ability to act with wisdom, diplomacy, integrity and sound commercial judgement.
The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate proven competence in:
- Providing great leadership, being open and energetic and with the ability to motivate, inspire and develop teams to achieve world class performance
- Negotiating complex deals and strategic industry partnerships with tact, tenacity and persistence
- Supporting major translational funding applications and strategic initiatives
- Working effectively with key senior stakeholders both internally and externally, assertively influencing them and, where appropriate, showing creativity and resilience in strategic business situations
- In depth management experience to enable effective collaboration with specialist functions and experts outside one's own professional discipline
- Proven track record in turning an idea into measurable economic success
