The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Staff Scientist in Bioinformatics.
Responsibilities for this position will include analysis of genomic data generated in the Marshall University Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility and in the laboratories of Andrew Nato and James Denvir.
Applicants must have the following minimum qualifications: (1) Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field, (2) experience and expertise in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, such as RNA-Seq, whole exome or whole genome data, (3) excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data sets and technical aspects of analytical techniques to collaborators with minimal expertise in those fields and, (4) experience working in a Linux environment and programming skills in R. We will prefer candidates with a PhD in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology, experience working in a research core facility, experience with public genomic databases, programming skills in Python or Java, or working knowledge of computational genetics and statistical genetics. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
