National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences

Division of Intramural Research

Epigenetics & Stem Cell Biology Laboratory,

Eukaryotic Transcriptional Regulation Group

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The Epigenetics & Stem Cell Biology Laboratory of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Research Triangle Park, North Carolina is recruiting a Staff Scientist for the Eukaryotic Transcriptional Regulation Group under the leadership of Dr. Paul Wade, Principal Investigator. The Eukaryotic Transcriptional Regulation Group uses biochemistry, cell culture and animal models to investigate transcriptional regulation in a chromatin environment. The position is available immediately, and a mutually agreeable start date can be negotiated with the successful candidate.

A Staff Scientist is a NIH employee generally appointed to a time-limited, renewable position to support the long-term research of a Principal Investigator. Staff Scientists often work independently and have sophisticated skills and knowledge essential to the work of the laboratory, although they do not receive independent resources. Staff Scientists should be capable of independently designing experiments, but do not have responsibilities for initiating new research programs. The Staff Scientist in this position will also teach and mentor laboratory trainees.

NIEHS has a robust Intramural Research Program that actively studies how the environment impacts human health. Faculty interests range from Epidemiology and Biostatistics to Epigenetics, Development, Signal Transduction, Neurobiology and Immunity. The Intramural Research Program hosts a number of state-of-the-art core facilities that provide intramural scientists support in Epigenomics, Mass Spectrometry, Bioinformatics, Metabolomics, Microscopy and Structural Biology (including CryoEM). The successful candidate will have access to all NIEHS support facilities.

Qualifications:

We are seeking an experienced scientist with a proven track record in epigenetics and gene regulation, with a preference for established expertise in use of genomic technologies (ChIP-seq, ATAC, …) to interrogate chromatin-dependent gene regulation. Candidates must possess an M.D. or Ph.D. with 3+ years postdoctoral experience in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field. Laboratory experience with biochemical and/or genomic techniques in addressing epigenetic regulation  and outstanding publication record in the aforementioned areas are required. Proven record of team leadership and mentoring, evidence of teamwork and teaching, and excellent oral and written communication skills are highly preferred.

Salary/Benefits:

The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary starting at $80k and commensurate with experience and accomplishments with full Federal benefits, including leave, health and life insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401K equivalent).

Equal Opportunity Employment:

Selection for this position will be based solely on merit, with no discrimination for non-merit reasons such as race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, political affiliation, marital status, disability, age, or membership or non-membership in an employee organization. The NIH encourages the application and nomination of qualified women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities.

Foreign Education:

Applicants who have completed part or all of their education outside of the US must have their foreign education evaluated by an accredited organization to ensure that the foreign education is equivalent to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States. We will only accept the completed foreign education evaluation. For more information on foreign education verification, visit the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) website at http://www.naces.org/. Verification must be received prior to the effective date of the appointment.
