Anatomic Pathology DirectorAssociate Professor/Professor


The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine is seeking dynamic physician-leader at the Associate Professor/Professor level to serve as Director of Anatomic Pathology (AP). This position reports directly to the chair/CLIA medical director and is a major clinical operational leader who will provide strategic vision and collaborative implementation to ensure the future growth of Anatomic Pathology. Duties include oversight of a team of medical directors in Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Neuropathology, Renal Pathology, Autopsy Pathology, and Hematopathology, Dermatopathology and Biorepository. The AP Director chairs the AP Clinical Quality Improvement Committee, monitors professional billing and collection data, and works collaboratively on test menu, services, and resource requests. The AP Director supports the educational mission through close engagement with training program directors, and instructors of record for medical student electives, and supports the research mission through collaboration with the department's Clinical Research Oversight Committee and other research leaders. Approximately 50% time will be spent in clinical duties involving anatomic pathology. Teaching duties will chiefly consist of clinical teaching of housestaff and medical students. Participation in the research mission is expected, either as a collaborator or leader of clinically-oriented research projects pertinent to the candidate's areas of expertise and training. The Department accessions more than 21,000 surgical and 14,000 cytology specimens per year. The clinical laboratory performs more than 10 million tests per year, including point-of-care tests.

The successful candidate must have an M.D. or D.O., and be board-certified in anatomic pathology. Subspecialty expertise is highly desired. The candidate must have a minimum of seven years' experience in a clinical or academic setting that includes teaching, clinical service, and prior leadership roles, and a record of research/creative work that would meet requirements for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level in one of the University of California's clinically-intensive academic series [Clinical (X) or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series].

The ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain excellent relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others are required.

California Medical License or eligibility for licensure in California is required.
