Description of Position:
Under the direction of the Dean of Math and Sciences, and working closely with math department as a whole, this position is responsible for providing high-level classroom and math lab instruction to a diverse student population and working collaboratively with the department and the college in our constant effort to support student success. Moreover, this position will be expected to teach transfer level courses from Precaluclus to Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra to support the flourishing STEM program on the Brentwood campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines;
2. participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs;
3. collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review;
4. engaging in department program improvement initiatives;
5. participating in department, division, and college committees;
6. participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide;
7. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies;
8. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
9. informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements;
10. preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress;
11. maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines;
12. posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy;
13. participating in Colleges shared governance processes.
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications:
1. A valid lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential with authorization to teach Mathematics OR
2. A Masters Degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics OR
3. Bachelors Degree in either of the above AND a Masters Degree in Physics, Statistics or Mathematical Education OR
4. The equivalent. (If you are applying for equivalency, please complete the form.)
1. A broad background in mathematics to include a variety of upper division and graduate level courses in analysis, advanced calculus, algebra, differential equations, and statistics.
2. Breadth of teaching experience, in any setting, ranging from basic skills mathematics through differential equations.
3. Familiarity with community college goals and students.
4. Experience, training, or expertise in dealing with learning difficulties of students.
5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring community college students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities
6. Ability to facilitate effective mathematical learning in the classroom including experience utilizing alternative modes of instruction such as tutoring, small group, flipped classrooms, and working in a math lab or any other innovative techniques.
7. Ability and willingness to integrate technology (computers, graphing calculators, etc.) into the curriculum.
8. Willingness to use, adopt, modify and convey effective teaching strategies.
9. Willingness to participate as a team member in committees and activities of the Brentwood Non-departmentalized faculty group, the math and sciences division, and the college.
Demonstrated commitment to faculty professional out-of-classroom expectations in regards to punctuality and promptness when responding to emails, grading assignments, giving students feedback, holding office hours, completing committee work and implementing department suggestions
