As part of a research program aimed at developing a next-generation protein sequencing modality based on fluorescently tagged, N-terminal amino acid binding (NAAB) reagents, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Biomolecular Structure and Function Group seeks a postdoctoral research fellow to work in the area of protein and/or nucleic acid engineering at the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR), Rockville, Maryland. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the engineering of protein- and RNA-based biosensors that are capable of selectively binding to N-terminal amino acid of peptides with high-affinity and specificity using both directed evolution and rational design. The candidate will also be involved in the development and implementation of assays for solution and surface measurements of NAABs biosensor for affinity and selectivity.

IBBR (www.ibbr.umd.edu) is a premier research institute focused on the structural and quantitative biological characterization of complex protein structure/function relationships and bio-molecular engineering and testing of novel products or platforms targeting prevention or treatment of conditions of human disease and intervention. IBBR operates state-of-the-art facilities located in the heart of the biotechnology corridor in Rockville, Maryland. The Institute is a joint research enterprise between the University of Maryland and the National Institute of Standards and Technology and has an outstanding group of scientists and engineers with long-standing track records in basic and translational research.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology or related fields.

Preferences: Experience with technologies such as phage and yeast display for directed evolution or SELEX approaches for nucleic acid selection is desired.

To Apply: Interested candidates should email a single PDF file containing a cover letter, a detailed CV, and the names and contact information of three references to:https://ejobs.umd.edu/postings/79383
