ROLE SUMMARY

Within the Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU), the Metabolism group is focusing on identifying targets and developing compounds for the treatment of metabolic disease including fatty liver. We are seeking motivated self-aware individuals with excellent oral and written communication skills and a deep interest in biological sciences. The successful candidate will have skill sets in cellular and molecular biology and experience in primary cell culture such as hepatocytes. Experience in in vivo and animal handling is a plus. The successful candidate will be able to learn new techniques in vitro and in vivo quickly as needed to support project. The candidate will be involved in research projects from early target validation to drug development and function in a team environment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful candidates will be expected to:
  • Perform in vitro experiments to explore the mechanism of actions of potential biology targets and therapies in hepatocytes.
  • Analysis in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo samples to assess effect of potential biological target and therapies as well as to identify biomarkers of drug action and efficacy.
  • Develop and validate in vitro assays to support portfolio projects.
  • Quantification and translation of experimental results to advance the understanding of how metabolic pathways and complex physiological systems are altered by diseases and how they respond to therapeutic interventions.
  • Communicate and present his/her data to project team.
  • Maintenance of laboratory notebook records and adherence to safety policies is strictly required.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA, BS or MS in Biochemistry, Physiology, Molecular and cell biology with laboratory experience in appropriate scientific areas relevant to this position.
  • Prior experience in culturing/isolation of primary cells i.e. hepatocytes.
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge in liver and lipid metabolism is desirable.
  • Experience in vivo is a plus.
  • This position will require some lifting, sitting, bending, standing, walking.
