GSK is expanding the Oncology organization and we are seeking experienced professionals to join our exciting journey. We develop potentially life-changing oncology therapies with a focus in four areas of cancer research: Immuno-Oncology, Epigenetics, Cell and Gene Therapy and Synthetic Lethality.

Clinical Development at GSK is responsible for the development of the oncology portfolio from First Time in Human (FTIH) clinical trials to Proof-of-Concept (POC) studies and pivotal registration trials. In year 1 of this role, the Senior Director, Capabilities Lead - Oncology, will partner with the key stakeholders across Clinical Development to devise appropriate functional training curricula to ensure staff consistently have the core competencies, technical skills and scientific knowledge to develop and deliver the portfolio. This individual will act as a change leader and drive a learning culture by sharing best practices and lessons learned as well as further clarifying roles and responsibilities across skill groups. The role will also be accountable for identifying opportunities to further enhance the core competencies and capabilities across the organization and, ultimately, building a competitive advantage for GSK. After year 1, this role will expand to include the building of capabilities across the broader Oncology business unit, inclusive of therapy area management, 4 mechanistically aligned research units and the Experimental Medicines Unit.

This role will give YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include the following…

• Leads training and provides external benchmarking to grow capabilities across Oncology. This may pertain to a variety of areas such as clinical treatment paradigms, drivers of people development, asset development planning/processes, regulatory approval pathways, industry trends as well as leveraging existing GSK leadership programs.
• Scans external landscape for emerging trends, capabilities and best practices. Identifies needed technical training programs and external and internal faculty to provide the training, develops a technical accreditation that remains competitive externally and develops and maintains an external professional network.
• Designs, develops, and implements associated training materials and tools to ensure materials reflect external and local best practices. Actively partners with HR, R&D Ethics and Compliance, and global learning functions to employ learning principles and leverage enterprise-wide approaches (e.g. leadership and coaching frameworks).
• Maintains the Capability Framework ensuring that the capabilities, competencies and proficiencies reflect the required expectations for performance & individual development
• Actively evaluates programs and activities to drive continuous improvement. Drives the development of appropriate measures for defined interventions to ensure that programs deliver the required strategic change.
• Develops framework for new ways of working and clarifies job responsibilities across Oncology skill groups.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for a professional with these required skills to achieve our goals:
• Bachelor's Degree in scientific discipline together with 15+ years pharmaceutical industry experience OR advanced science/analytical degree with 10+ years pharmaceutical industry experience.
• Minimum of 10 years of Oncology Research & Development experience is required, with broad experience across functions.
• Prior leadership of complex projects with significant organizational impact with limited direction/oversight.
• Prior experience with working across functions within pharmaceutical R&D organizations and across different parts of the business

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
• MBA or PhD degree in scientific or business discipline together with substantial industry experience
• Robust knowledge of disease-specific research priorities, public health needs, competitor landscape, clinical practice trends and treatment guidelines evolution
• Significant experience in diagnosis, design , and delivery of in-person, virtual and online trainings across multiple platforms.
• Track record of employing sound technical and business judgment in solving complex business problems with high risk/impact to the organization
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to the target audience and senior stakeholders, promoting effective decision-making where necessary.
• Ability to quickly create credibility across a diverse range of GSK functional teams, seniority, and geography.
• Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of end to end Oncology drug development.
• Ability to constructively challenge practices with senior leaders; drive appropriate process improvements; and integrate standardization/customization appropriately.
• Track record of effective influencing and negotiation in challenging, ambiguous and/or changing environments.
• High level of energy, enthusiasm and commitment. Intellectually curious with a track record of identifying innovative solutions to both project-specific and portfolio wide issues
