There are multiple exciting opportunities in the GlaxoSmithKline Synthetic Biochemistry and Protein Reagents groups. The primary focus of this role is to support the delivery of novel protein reagents for early phase drug discovery, as well as the continued development of a high throughput protein expression and reagent discovery platform. The successful candidate would participate on an interdisciplinary team tasked with providing early target assessment and reagent delivery into the GSK discovery portfolio.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:
  • Collaboratively contribute to biologically relevant target construct design and assessment strategies
  • Implement appropriate assays for screening protein expression and quality in high throughput
  • When appropriate, support scale up and purification of protein constructs
  • Generate protein variants for high throughput characterization
  • Manipulate large-scale datasets using MS Excel and equipment interfacing programs.
  • Liaise with scientists & external collaborators at all levels
  • Generate conclusion reports, present data in team meetings & participate in writing of abstracts & publications
  • Conduct scientific work programs and make contributions both independently and as a member of a team with other R&D staff
  • Work through problems logically and apply innovative solutions (appropriate to grade)
  • Adopt new technologies and apply them to project work
  • Maintain customer focus, motivate self, and demonstrate a high degree of urgency
  • Use scientific literature and database resources in the execution of project related work
  • Exhibit flexibility, being open to new ways of working


Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • B.S. in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, or related field with 1-2 years relevant lab-based experience
  • Experience in the expression and characterization of protein constructs using E. coli host systems
  • Experience with common protein analysis tools, including SDS-PAGE and immunoassays.
  • Experience in molecular cloning techniques, including PCR, Sanger sequencing and cellular transformation


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • M.S. in Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology, Biomolecular Engineering, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, or related field with 2-5 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with parallel experimentation, high throughput assay development, Design of Experiments, etc.
  • Experience with a variety of protein expression platforms, including E. coli , Insect cell culture and mammalian expression systems
  • Experience with a variety of protein purification techniques, including ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography and affinity chromatography
  • Significant hands-on experience with construct design and generation of protein constructs
  • Familiarity with or interest in learning automation equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, displaying excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
