The primary function for the Medical Dosimetrist position is to perform external beam treatment planning and dose calculations for radiation therapy patient care as well as quality assurance activities and plan/chart reviews.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Clinical Competencies • Competently performs external beam treatment planning and dose calculations for safe effective radiation treatment delivery.

• Demonstrates accurate and timely patient e-chart processing, calculations, chart checks and supporting quality assurance activities.

• Follows the dose prescription to develop a treatment plan to calculate treatment times and monitor unit settings to deliver a prescribed radiation dose to a defined tumor volume.

• Assists in the planning and the fabrication of compensating filters and other beam modifying devices.

• Assists in the planning and the production of immobilization devices and other treatment aids.

• Provides technical assistance to the Therapeutic Radiological Physicist in radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibrations and quality assurance of the radiation therapy equipment.

• Assists in the application of special dosimetry methods, devices and techniques.

• Assists in intracavitary and interstitial sealed source procedures.

• Performs weekly quality assurance checks of radiotherapy treatment charts to insure accuracy, productivity standards and overall completeness.

• Maintains & demonstrates knowledge on all the latest guidelines, policies and procedures specific to medical dosimetry including but not limited to, basic competencies, skill specific competencies, and institutional and departmental policies.

Education
Required
: Graduate of hospital or college affiliated medical dosimetry school with clinical and classroom curriculum for duration of one year.

May substitute for required education with three years of current medical dosimetry experience.

License/Certification:

Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) within four years of job entry.
