Postdoctoral Fellowship in Viral Oncology, Johns Hopkins University

A postdoctoral position is available in the Viral Oncology Program of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Department of Oncology.  The research will involve investigations of the physical and functional interactions of Kaposi’s sarcoma- and primary effusion lymphoma-associated human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) viral interferon regulatory factors (vIRFs) with USP7 deubiquitinase and STAT transcription factors.  The four vIRFs encoded by HHV-8 are able to manipulate multiple host-cell signaling pathways to regulate innate immune responses and other processes to establish conditions conducive to viral latency and productive replication; vIRF interactions with and regulation of USP7 and STATs are key in virus biology.  The project will involve a variety of molecular biology, cell biology, and biophysical approaches to characterize the nature and roles of the respective vIRF-protein interactions.  Understanding these interactions could enable the development of novel therapeutic and antiviral interventions.  Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals with experience in molecular biology and tissue culture; please include a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references, and send these to Dr. John Nicholas (nichojo@jhmi.edu).
