Senior Associate Scientist, Biotherapeutic Protein Purification

Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) Biotherapeutic Expression and Purification group (BEP) is seeking a motivated protein purification scientist. Qualified candidate will play an essential role in a high-energy protein purification research laboratory. The purification group is responsible for non-GMP protein drug lead generation, supporting the various Pfizer research units and their pre-clinical therapeutic in-vitro and in-vivo needs. The candidate will be responsible for processing of mammalian- expressed recombinant protein modalities including, but not limited to, monoclonal antibodies through the use of state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. The candidate will contribute to the group wide deliverables and be required to work on several projects simultaneously presenting results and updates at group meetings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the development of scalable protein purification processes, and e nsure timely delivery of highly purified biotherapeutic candidates to discovery project teams.
  • Assess quality of biotherapeutics rigorously and review all analytical documentation prior to protein release.
  • Routinely provide updates at project meetings.
  • Proactively evaluate new technologies and implement new features and functionality into discovery pipeline.
  • Will be involved in the design and execution of projects with the ability to operate independently.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including therapeutic discovery teams, research units, bioanalytical teams, transient expression and stable cell line development groups, engineering leads, and R&D project leaders.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS with 2-4 years or MS with 0-3 years of relevant experience in Biochemistry, Biology, Biological Engineering or a related discipline along with a solid understanding of antibody/therapeutic protein purification.
  • Hands-on experience with protein purification (using affinity and traditional chromatographic techniques) on AKTA chromatography systems, including operating Unicorn and ChemStation software packages.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical biochemistry and experience in protein analytical characterization, including mass spectrometric analysis of protein.
  • Experience in protein expression and purification from HEK, CHO, E. coli systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross functional teams.
  • Organized, detail oriented, multi-task, and remain flexible with changing needs.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work under strict timeline.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior industry experience in antibodies/therapeutic protein purification.
  • Python and/or VB experience.
