Job Details

The Speech Language Pathologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center is an active member of the Head and Neck Center healthcare team assisting with the evaluation and treatment of patients with swallowing, cognitive and or communication deficits of functional and/or organic origin. The position will include treating patients in an inpatient acute care or outpatient setting, with specific patient care responsibilities and treatment assignments depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. Most new patients who come to MD Anderson every year are treated in one of our specialized cancer care centers or clinics, which embody the multidisciplinary, team approach to cancer care that has become an MD Anderson trademark. MD Anderson's Head and Neck Center has a remarkable depth of expertise gained by seeing more than 50,000 patients a year with cancers and benign tumors of the head and neck. We treat head and neck cancers with a diverse team of oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, neuro-radiologists, dental oncologists and plastic surgeons with special training in head and neck cancers. Together, they design customized treatment plans that may include proton therapy, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, targeted therapies and advanced reconstructive surgery methods.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Provide Evaluation

Provide a comprehensive evaluation of assigned patients; develop & administer the plan of care conistent with area(s) of deficit; maintain appropriate records (progress notes, IPOCTR, etc.) of activity and services proivded.

Maintain Records

Initiate referrals and convey recommendations to the appropriate resource/agency; maintain records (progress notes, IPOCTR, etc.) of activity and services provided.

Participate in Meetings

Attend and participate in meetings (rounds, staff, etc.) specific to learning and patient needs.

Facilitate Program Development

Facilitate program development and expansion via attendance of professional meetings, via presentations and correspondence

Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.

EXPERIENCE

Required: None

Preferred: Two years experience in medical setting.

CERTIFICATIONS

All of the following:
Certification or eligible for Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Licensure or eligible for Speech-Language Pathology license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation within 30 days of date of entry into job.
