Job Details

Paramedics are members of the Code Blue Operations team which provides operational oversight for emergency medical response at MD Anderson Cancer Center. This team ensures emergency medical care is provided to all patients, visitors, and workforce members and defines what number should be called for assistance. Emergency medical care, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), is provided by the Code Blue Teams for events occurring in or near the Mays Clinic Building and the Main Building. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provides emergency medical care at all other locations including the sky bridges.

Ideal candidate will have successfully completed a Texas Department of State Human Services (DSHS) approved EMT-Paramedic training course or Bachelor's degree. , will have two years' experience as a Paramedic, BLS, ACLS and will have a Paramedic License issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position.

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care in relation to the patient's immediate medical needs, in accordance with procedures.

Provides medical emergency response (code blue), as requested.

Provides primary medical emergency response in defined public spaces of the MD Anderson campus as part of Code Blue Team, and in accordance with protocols approved by the Code Blue Medical Director. Provides support, as requested, to Code Blue Teams in inpatient and outpatient areas.

Demonstrates technical skills related to an emergency medical response.

Includes, but is not limited to, competent use of defibrillator, electrocardiograph, laryngoscope, performance of endotracheal intubations, IV or IO placement, administration of oxygen, and immobilization devices.

Assists in transportation or movement of patients.

Assists in lifting, carrying, and transporting patient to ambulance and/or medical facility.

Education
Required:
Successful completion of a Texas Department of State Human Services (DSHS) approved EMT-Paramedic training course or Bachelor's degree.

Experience
Required: Two years experience as a paramedic.

Licensure/Certification
Required: All of the following: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association, Texas Paramedic License issued by the Texas Department of State of Health Services.
Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association.
