I. About Shandong University

Shandong University (SDU) is a time-honored, comprehensive university under the Ministry of Education, China. As one of the original institutions for modern higher education in China, SDU has received high respect world widely. It is one of the institutions in China’s Double First-Class initiative, China’s largest education development scheme to date aimed at increasing the global recognition of China’s university system.

In recent years, SDU has leaped forward in its development, with remarkably enhanced overall strength and competitiveness. Sixteen disciplines of SDU rank among the top 1% in the ESI Ranking. These include Chemistry, Physics, Clinical Medicine, Material Science, Biology and Biochemistry, Engineering, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuroscience and Behavior, Mathematics, Environmental Engineering and Ecology, Immunology, Plant and Animal Science, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Computer Science as well as Social Science.

SDU comprises campuses in three cities (Jinan, Qingdao, and Weihai). Located in Qingdao Ocean Tec Valley, Qingdao campus has eight schools and eleven institutions including Politics, Biology, Big Data processing and visual computing, Ocean Science and Engineering, Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control, Interdisciplinary Jurisprudence etc.

II. Openings and Qualifications

A. Global Expert

1. National Programs Talents and other outstanding scholars.

2.Applicants qualified for the official interview of National Programs and other outstanding scholars may be recommended for initial programs for talents of Shandong University.

B. Program of Qilu Scholars of Shandong University

1. Overseas applicants are required to be assistant professors or higher-level academics in renowned universities or corresponding positions in research institutions. Those who have the experience of long-term overseas academic training will also be considered.

3. Applicants should have strong academic potentials and have already obtained significant achievements in their research fields.

C. Tenure-track Faculty for Research & Teaching

1.Professor Candidates: For overseas applicants, the minimum requirement is assistant professorship or postdoctoral position in high level universities or corresponding positions in research institutions. For domestic applicants, the minimum requirement is professorship in universities or research institutions.

2. Associate Professor Candidates: Excellent postdoctoral or doctoral degree holder from a well-known university or research institution, or associate professors.

3.Assistant Professor Candidates: Excellent postdoctoral or doctoral degree holder from a well-known university or research institution

D．Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Postdoctoral research fellows in SUD are divided into 3 types according to different funds: special funds, key funds and project funds.

2. Applicants should be Ph.D. graduates from prestigious domestic or overseas universities or research institutes within the past 3 years.

3. Having made outstanding research achievements during Ph.D. study.

4.A consecutive postdoctoral research period for no less than 21 months in SDU is required.

III. Remuneration and Support

A. Global Experts

1. Academic title: professor and doctoral student supervisor with special quotas for recruiting doctoral students.

2. Funds for research development: about 1 to 3 million RMB from the national government plus additional funding of 1:1 (minimum ratio) provided by SDU.

3. Salary: The annual salary is no less than 500,000 RMB.

4. Housing benefits: 1.5 million RMB (including allowance from the national and provincial governments). The SDU Experts’ apartments are available at preferential rent during the first two terms of appointment.

5. High-quality health care and on-campus schooling for children of the successful applicants.

B. Program of Qilu Scholars

1. Academic title: professor and doctoral student supervisor.

2. Funds for research development: SDU will provide successful applicants in Natural Science, Engineering or Technology with no less than 1 million RMB, and no less than 300,000 RMB for those in Humanities and Social Sciences.

3. Salary: The annual salary is 300,000 to 400,000 RMB.

4. Housing benefits: SDU will provide an allowance of 300,000 to 500,000 RMB. The SDU Experts’ apartments are available at preferential rent during the first two terms of appointment.

5. High-quality health care and on-campus schooling for the children of successful applicants.

C. Tenure-track Faculty for Research & Teaching

1. Competitive salary and allowance (depending on contribution);

2. Research fund of RMB60, 000-200,000; RMB200, 000-500,000 for those who are selected in the “SDU Scholars Program”;

3. Housing allowance.

4. High-quality health care and on-campus schooling for the children of successful applicants.

D. Postdoctoral Research Fellow

1.The minimum fund for each postdoctoral research fellow of special funds is 360,000RMB/year, and 260,000RMB/year for each postdoctoral research fellow of key funds, 180,000RMB/year for each postdoctoral research fellow of project funds.

2.Social insurance and housing accumulation funds in China by the same standard of counterpart SDU teaching faculty are provided. Foreign postdoctoral research fellows are covered by commercial health insurance.

3.Apartments for postdoctoral research fellows near the university are available for rent.

4.High-quality health care and on-campus schooling for children of the successful applicants working full-time at SDU.
