Two postdoctoral fellow positions are available in the Iliya Lefterov and Radosveta Koldamova laboratory in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. The successful candidates will become part of a large, multidisciplinary neuroscience and environmental health community, and will have ample opportunities for collaborations. The lab utilizes transgenic animals for modeling of Alzheimer’s disease so the applicant should have knowledge on the use of animals as a model system. The postdoctoral positions in the lab are supported by NIH grants with goals of understanding the role of Apolipoprotein E and other risk factors for late onset Alzheimer’s disease such as TREM2 and ABCA7. These projects require integration of multiple techniques for rodent behavioral analysis, brain surgery, and histological, molecular, and genetic analysis of pathological markers.
Both candidates should have Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Cell Biology/Physiology, or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Molecular Genetics, with a track record of productivity.
1) For the first position solid background in Neuroscience and hands-on experience with transgenic mouse colony maintenance, small animal rodent surgery, and experience with immunohistochemistry using confocal microscope as well as behavioral testing to study the nervous system are required. Experience with 2-photon microscopy will be considered a plus.
2) For the second position knowledge and experience in molecular biology and biochemistry is a requirement. The application of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) including single cell transcriptomes, is a substantial part of the work relevant to all projects. The position requires basic knowledge of statistics and R, experience with bioinformatics tools and software packages necessary to analyze sequencing and MS data. Experience with omix approaches such as RNA-seq and proteomics, and knowledge of Unix/Mac OS platforms will be considered a plus.
