The Buck Institute for Research on Aging seeks a new faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are looking for an individual who works in the field of Aging Research and/or Age-related diseases with a specific interest and expertise in Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics. The Buck Institute offers a state-of-the art Proteomics facility directed by Dr. Birgit Schilling. It includes an infrastructure of modern mass spectrometric instrumentation, such as an Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid with FAIMS, two orthogonal quadrupole time-of-flight instruments (TripleTOF 6600 and TripleTOF 5600), a triple quadrupole linear ion trap (QTRAP 5500) and some additional platforms.

The new faculty member will be expected to use and build the current Proteomics instrumentation and coordinate with the MS facility and the Core Director. The Buck Institute Proteomics Center is known for developing novel proteomics workflows, quantitative MS scan type and quantification software (e.g., Skyline), and for providing proteomic educational seminars. The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to these MS research and educational activities. We are expecting the candidate to develop their own strong research program in Aging or Age-related diseases. Candidates should also engage in collaborative projects at the Buck Institute and work closely with the MS Core.  


  • Doctoral degree and 3+ years postdoctoral experience with a published record of research accomplishments
  • Ability to establish a productive, cutting-edge research program focused on Aging or Age-related diseases
  • Ability to use proteomic workflows to gain insights into molecular details underlying Aging and Age-related diseases
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to foster collaborative work within the Institute and beyond
  • Prior experience in aging research
  • Preference given to candidates with K99/R00 or other forms of independent funding, and/or to candidates with experience supporting core/MS facility activities.
