Translational Science Project Leader is accountable for translating complex questions related to a vaccine or technology project into a set of preclinical or clinical activities designed to provide actionable results (e.g. to support understanding of the mode of action, correlate of protection, persistence, reactogenicity & safety signals, target population specificities, micro-environment), which will help the company to design new/improved vaccines and to address the questions from our stakeholders (RA, payors, ..)

  • Understand vaccine/technology project needs on complex/transversal questions related to the understanding of i) the mode of action, ii) correlate of protection, iii) persistence, iv) reactogenicity & safety signals, v) target population specificities (e.g. immuno-senescence), v) micro-environment…
  • Design a feasible pathway to address such transversal questions together with project team and key stakeholders in the R&D Center (e.g. Discovery Project Leaders (DPL), Preclinical R&D (PRD), Clinical R&D (CRD), including Clinical Research and Development Leads (CRDL), and also Clinical Evidence Generation (CEG) (including Biostats, Clinical Readout Teams, Clinical Lab Sciences & Data management).
  • Establish recommendations on translational activities (what, how & priority level) for endorsement by the appropriate Governance.
  • Support PRD, CEG, CRDLs or external collaborators in the implementation of the prioritized translational activities.
  • Build a consolidated and integrated answer addressing project team questions from the multiple pieces of evidence that are generated in CEG, PRD & external collaborations.
  • Organize periodic retrospective review of the actionability & relevance of the translational science activities that have been conducted (continuous improvement).
  • Identify and establish external collaborations that will enable/facilitate the delivery of scientific evidence supporting the prioritized translational objectives.
  • Identify and leverage sources of external funding aligned with prioritized translational objectives.
  • Ensure internal (Vaccines, Pharma, Consumer Health) and external dissemination of the translational science generated within the company.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • PhD, MD or DVM and postdoctoral training ​
  • Transversal expertise in biological science (including Immunology, especially human immunology, Molecular Biology, Biomarkers, Systems Immunology), “Big data technologies” and quantitative data analysis.
  • High level of complexity, requiring a combination of analytical capacity, scientific knowledge and ability to cope with rapid technological evolutions.
  • Previous academic career as well as current industry experience


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Leadership in cross-functional teams - credibility within the organization, especially in the interactions with Lead VDLs/VDLs, DPLs, CRDLs, PRD & CEG Leaders, and corporate governance bodies.
  • Credibility outside the organization when interacting with regulatory agencies & external collaborators
  • Ability to follow rapid technological evolutions and to zoom in/zoom out when consolidating different pieces of evidence to address complex problem
  • Must have excellent networking and stakeholder management skills and leadership experience within a matrix organization
