Role Summary

Over the last decade, we've seen curative responses to immunotherapies, yet that potential often goes unrealized for patients with few or short-lived immune responses. At Pfizer, we are exploring the next generation of oncology agents to reinvigorate the tumor microenvironment and promote durable anti-tumor immunity.

To guide hit-to-lead optimization efforts and unravel therapeutic mechanisms-of-action, the newly formed Integrated Biotechnologies group located in La Jolla employs cutting-edge cell engineering, chemical biology, and genetic approaches. Team members pursue tumor and immune cell targets while leveraging diverse therapeutic modalities.

We are seeking an experienced immune cell biologist to contribute to the success of the Integrated Biotechnologies group. Responsibilities would include engineering primary and iPSC-derived immune cells to enable hit-to-lead and translational efforts. Expertise in cell signaling, antigen-presentation, and molecular biology are requirements for this position. Experience with immunopeptidomics, lentiviral gene delivery approaches and CRISPR technology are also highly desired. The successful candidate will work closely with individuals in drug design, computational biology, and immune-oncology groups to innovate and develop next-generation immunotherapies.

Role Responsibilities
  • Develop engineered cell platforms for dissecting the molecular mechanisms of macrophage, DC, and T cell function.
  • Identify I-O therapeutic opportunities stemming from altered protein homeostasis and antigen presentation in cancer.
  • Design and implement cell-based assays for the identification of therapeutic targets, and to screen for small- and large-molecule drug candidates.
  • Collaborate with team members to employ proteomic, CRISPR, transcriptomic, and chemical biology approaches to accelerate problem solving.
  • Participate and present in internal and external collaboration meetings as well as at site and cross-site meetings.
  • Communicate experimental findings accurately and concisely in both oral and written formats.
  • Contribute to building a culture that embraces continuous learning and improvement.

Qualifications

Must-Have
  • PhD in Biology/Immunology/Biochemistry/Cell Biology, or related discipline.
  • Track record of successful research projects with significant experience in molecular and cell biology methods.
  • Ability to independently design, plan, and execute and interpret experiments.
  • Familiarity with antibody and small-molecule discovery approaches.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The individual should be scientifically creative and driven by a willingness to embrace innovation within drug discovery, and an eagerness to challenge and meet timelines.

Nice-to-Have
  • 1+ years' postdoctoral or industry R&D experience preferred.
  • Expertise in iPSC or primary cell culture, cell-based assays, lentivirus, CRISPR, FACS, and interrogating signaling, splicing, or protein homeostasis pathways.
  • Experience in leveraging systems biology analytic approaches.
  • Strong track record of scientific accomplishments demonstrated through publications in highly-impact journals and/or intellectual property generation.
