The Global Investigator Payments Team Lead in Pfizer's Global Product Development (GPD) division will be responsible for ensuring all sites participating in Pfizer clinical trials are paid in a timely and accurate manner to enable operations and ensure site satisfaction. This role will be accountable for the performance of multiple vendors performing services to support site payments, will serve as global business process owner and will manage an internal team dedicated to oversight, process management and improvement, issue resolution and other key deliverables. Additionally, this role will also oversee the enterprise activities associated with the area of investigator payments and ensure that core services, key deliverables, sites and studies are supported from a project management perspective.

She/he will be accountable for ensuring all Pfizer payments team members are following defined processes and providing leadership and appropriate oversight to the vendors and preferred CRO's. This role also interfaces with CRO managers to resolve issues and escalate concerns.

The Global Investigator Payments Team Lead will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on global site payments and will be responsible for defining, documenting and sharing best practices with vendor staff and study teams.

Role Responsibilities
  • Refine and drive Pfizer strategy on global site payments, including sourcing, supportive technology and roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for vendors and staff.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to identify and implement improvements to the global payments processes, systems and tools.
  • Engage with GPD and vendor senior leadership to effectively manage issues and opportunities in the area of global site payments.
  • Develop and manage Pfizer process guidelines and ensure adherence to those processes through QC checks and oversight activities including review and analysis of KPI's and metrics
  • Prioritize and make decisions and recommendations on complex processes and issues with interdependencies (eg site relationships, budgets and contracts, regulatory requirements, language, tax, currency, etc.) which include ex-U.S. constraints
  • Manage and lead investigator payments team at Pfizer and drive accountability for vendor and Pfizer partner line's performance to achieve target performance levels established in Service Level Agreement (SLA) for investigator payments.
  • Proactively assess payment strategies to align with evolving Pfizer operating model, industry landscape and evolution of clinical trials.
  • Final decision maker for strategy changes and guide teams as to appropriate level of risk taking.
  • Subject Matter expert for global site payments queries and approaches.
  • Identify and grow talent to support complex area of trial operations.
  • Lead and drive development, enhancements, or process improvement initiatives for all aspects of clinical site payment administration from protocol schedule of activities, database build through to payment execution.
  • Lead creation of an integrated, site facing approach to strong customer focus and issue management resolution.
  • Ability to anticipate change in a matrixed environment as well as influence senior management/ other lines who are customers to investigator payment services.
  • Business Owner for QMS09 (Vendor Oversight) and associated requirements.
  • Defining & providing managerial leadership of strategies within team and specific implementation of processes, quality goals and standards.
  • Actively develops talent through providing focused career development, performance management & manages retention.
  • Create, maintain and assume accountability for a culture of high quality and customer service using tools to facilitate communication, transparency of operations, clarity of workload balance, and alignment within and across functional lines.
  • Support and continuously evaluate and evolve the investigator payments teams roles to add value and efficiencies.
  • In strong collaboration with other colleagues or functions (peers, project leads, and group leads), will implement strategies to ensure consistent processes.


Qualifications

Education:
  • MBA or advanced degree is required.


Prior Experience / Attributes Preferred:
  • More than ten years of experience in clinical contracts/budget administration, accounting/finance, and/or clinical project operations.
  • Specific experience in managing global investigator and site payments is required
  • Knowledge of clinical operations, protocols and site budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry payment processing software, including developing business requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, sufficient to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Good business judgment and a strong understanding of the unique aspects of site payments including regional and country specific considerations.
  • Requires an in-depth understanding of clinical site budgets and payment terms.
  • Knowledge of local tax and payment regulations in countries where clinical trials are executed.
  • Experience in cross-border financial transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional environment with clinical operations, business technology, legal, finance, tax and other functional lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical recommendations and decisions related to investigator payments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
  • Desire to create positive experiences and make significant contributions.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across a variety of teams and cultures located in multiple locations in demanding/changing situations.
  • Strong leadership and relationship management skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team to deliver on common work objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing PSC, vendor & ancillary, and monitoring costs projections & spend.
  • Experience in the management and direct supervision of internal resource required.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in a multidisciplinary, matrix team environment required.
  • Evidence of strong leadership, influencing, negotiation, and management skills.
