Job Details

Applications are invited for the Bioinformatics Facility Leader at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology (FBBB) at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. The appointment is a full-time position with a starting date in September 2021.

FBBB is one of the leading research and teaching institutions in Poland, well-recognized internationally. It gathers a large variety of departmental units conducting multidisciplinary research ranging from atomic and molecular to tissue and organism levels.

The Bioinformatics Core Facility will be created under the  Excellence Initiative – Research University, Structural and Translational Biology Priority Research Area (BiOS PRA) to provide expert bioinformatics conceptual and technical support to scientists from the various research units of BioS PRA (further information on the BiOS PRA can be found at bios.id.uj.edu.pl/en_GB). The support will include data processing, statistical analysis, integration and visualization of disparate datasets, development of analysis workflows, and training. You will be asked to create and organize this facility and manage it as a leader. You will develop analytical methods to be used and will determine how those methods are to be deployed. You will have the opportunity to employ a bioinformatics specialist and recruit doctoral and master's students.

A Ph.D. degree in a scientific or computational discipline is required together with significant experience in bioinformatics or computational biology. Good programming or scripting skills (Perl/Python/R, proficiency in Unix/Linux and cluster experience) are required together with experience in computational analysis of high-throughput molecular biology experiments (experience in omics data analysis, e.g. (meta)genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics data). You will be an excellent and inspiring communicator, able to consult and collaborate with non-computational research scientists on experimental design and bioinformatics analysis. You are also expected to develop and work on your own specific projects financed by external funds. A proven publication record of meaningful analysis roles in peer-reviewed articles is essential.
