Postdoctoral

Postdoctoral position are immediately available to better understand the molecular mechanism of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) – a hepatic manifestation of metabolic disease that is characterized by steatosis, inflammation and fibrosis. Low-grade inflammation secondary to macrophage infiltration and activation in the liver is a causative factor for catalyzing the disease progression from benign steatosis to NASH. To date, the underlying mechanism of tissue macrophage recruitment, polarization and activation in the liver is poorly understood.

We seek a highly motivated candidate with PhD and/or MD to work on NIH-funded projects to delineate insulin and insulin-like growth factor signaling in tissue macrophages in animal models and human subjects with NASH. Our goal is to characterize factors that integrate insulin resistance to macrophage activation and hepatic inflammation in the pathogenesis of NASH. These studies are to expected to provide mechanistic insights into NASH and uncover therapeutic targets for improving hepatic inflammation to prevent NASH in at-risk subjects.
