Bioinformatician - Psychiatry - (NorthShore University HealthSystem Job #74181)  Position Highlights:

    What you will need:
  • Education: PhD degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or related field Certification: N/A Experience: At least 1-2 years’ experience in DNA bioinformatics analysis (can be during graduate school) Experience with NGS datasets, particularly large cohort data Experience in GWAS analysis

Skills: Ability to develop pipelines for analyzing NGS data Ability to develop statistical methods for analyzing genetic data Linux system familiarity, High performance computing (HPC) experience Fluency in either R or python, familiarity with both as well as shell scripting Human genetic data qc, annotation and analysis Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools used in human genetics (plink, bcftools/samtools, GATK, VEP) Previous experience with SQL databases required, OMOP database experience preferred Ability to troubleshoot & develop workflows with strong documentation Ability to review literature on bioinformatics and statistical genetics Ability to author peer-reviewed papers Ability to assist other investigators on grant applications  

What you will do:

  • Carry out research efforts primarily related to GHI (Genomic Health Initiative), such as: high performance computing, programming (python and/or Rm shell scripting), genetic data processing (quality control, annotation, analysis), GWAS and PheWAS, bioinformatics (e.g., plink, bcftools/samtools, GATK, VEP), SQL databases (ideally OMOP also), troubleshooting, workflow development and documentation

The position maintains a highly collaborative working relationship with a broad range of Principal Investigators, inter-department staff, including other department physician staff, physician assistants, billing and coding staff.

Additionally, the position upholds a highly collaborative working relationship with multi-institutions involved in similar research initiatives.
