Pfizer Boulder Research & Development is currently seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented candidate for a Principal Scientist position to help expand our chemical biology and proteomics capabilities in Boulder, CO. The successful candidate will aid in the development and application of chemical biology and innovative mass spectrometry platforms to drive a deeper understanding of our molecules and cellular targets. Relevant methodologies include small molecule target deconvolution in phenotypic screen studies, small molecule target occupancy studies using chemical probes, direct protein target identification and characterization, protein turnover studies, and peptide mapping for covalent inhibitors.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Apply quantitative protein mass spectrometry technologies for chemo-proteomics and general proteomics across the oncology portfolio.
  • Develop methods for direct identification of small molecule-targeted kinases.
  • Design workflows to detect differences in protein phosphorylation between samples sets (drug-sensitive versus resistant cell lines, drug-treated versus control cells, etc.).
  • Participate in all aspects of laboratory operations including sample preparation, running samples on the MS, and data analysis and interpretation.
  • Collaborate on projects with colleagues in Cell Biology, Structural Biology, and Pharmacology departments.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies/methodologies that may enhance proteomic workflows.
  • Report data, interpret results, and present at project team meetings.


Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in chemical biology/chemistry/ biochemistry or related field is required.
  • 5+ years of academic or industrial experience in proteomics.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in chemical biology studies using chemical probes (covalent and/or photoaffinity) and in phosphoproteomics is required.
  • Expertise in proteomics-based mass spectrometry methods, including sample preparation and familiarity with quantitative proteomics methodologies (ex. SILAC, TMT) is required.
  • Hands-on experience and strong trouble shooting skills for high-resolution LCMS analysis.
  • Experience interpreting mass spectral data to make structural assignments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills .
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
