Assistant Professor of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Microbial Systems Biology, beginning August 1, 2021, at the level of Assistant Professor. We are especially interested in biologists who combine wet-bench experimentation with large-scale data to address fundamental questions in microbiology. Those questions may be related to inter-species community interactions, environmental response networks, metabolic flexibility, antimicrobial targets, or pathogenic interactions. There are outstanding opportunities for collaborations with faculty across our Life Sciences departmetns and our Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, and access to the Georgia Genomics and Bioinformatic Center, the Microscopy Core, and Advanced Computeing Resources. Competitive applicants will have a strong research record, demonstrate a well-developed research plan, and exhibit a commitment to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. A PhD (or equivalent) in Microbiology or a related field with 1 or more years of postdoctoral experience is required at the time of appointment. Candidates should submit these application materials electronically (https://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/180088): 1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) statement of research interests and goals (up to 2 pages). The teaching philosophy should include discussion of the candidate's commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment in their classroom and in their research group. Candidates should also submit names and contact information for 3 references, who will be asked to provide letters of recommendation. Questions may be directed to the Search Committee at this email address: mibosearch@uga.edu. Completed applications (including letters) received by February 26,2021 are assured full consideration.
