A postdoctoral position in the Departments of Medicine and Orthopaedics at UConn Health, Farmington, Connecticut is available to study osteoimmunology: the interactions of bone and immune cells

Osteoclasts are the only cells that can efficiently resorb (remove) bone. Accelerated production of osteoclasts produces diseases of low bone mass, like osteoporosis, which have significant morbidity. Osteoclasts originate from a myeloid precursor cell that also gives rise to macrophages and dendritic cells. Our laboratory studies the role that immune and skeletal cells play in regulating osteoclast formation and activity. We seek to identify differences in the origins, phenotype and activity of osteoclasts that form in homeostasis from those that form during inflammation or other disease states. The lab is also investigating novel therapies for osteoporosis, which utilize unique, anti-inflammatory signaling pathways in osteoclasts.

A competitive salary and an excellent work environment are offered. Funding is through a recently awarded NIH grant and guaranteed for 4 years. We are particularly interested to hire highly motivated individuals with a background in immunology and/or skeletal biology. Please send a CV and the names of three references to:
