Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Cellular & Molecular Immunology
We offer a postdoctoral position for a highly motivated, ambitious, and productive applicant with a sincere interest in understanding mechanisms of human autoimmunity and auto-inflammation. The position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Johannes Nowatzky which focuses on the immune-pathobiology of Behçet’s disease, non-infectious uveitis, and other HLA-associated autoimmune/ autoinflammatory disorders. The lab also has an interest and track record in the development of cell-based immunotherapy approaches for autoimmune diseases and human Treg. We use and/ or develop every method necessary to answer the scientific questions we ask, including, but not limited to, human cell T and B cell line generation, T and B cell cloning, CRISPR-Cas 9 genome editing, application and development of humanized murine models, iPS cell-based approaches, processing, banking and long-distance transfer of rare human biospecimens, including from recruitment sites oversees, multicolor flow cytometry and other single-cell approaches, mass spectrometry, as well as application and development of computational strategies for multi-parametric data sets. We offer an outstanding academic environment that fosters excellence, personal growth, and career development at a top-notch facility and a unique network of local and international collaborators.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in immunology, microbiology, genetics, or a related discipline, and a strong scientific background with relevant publications. Perseverance, endurance, intellectual creativity, flexibility, and versatility combined with an exceptionally high motivation to continue to learn and to tackle problems in an out-of-the-box approach as well as a fascination with the subject matter are essential. A solid command of standard molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, as well as cellular immunology methods is required. The suitable applicant should also have experience in the following: flow cytometry/ cell sorting; cell culture; CRISPR-Cas9 genome-editing; site-directed mutagenesis; handling of peptides/ peptide libraries in cellular recall assays; animal handling, care, and breeding; basic skills in programming languages such as C, C+, R, MATLAB, or Python, immunology techniques such as ELISA, ELISPOT, CBA, immunoprecipitation, etc. Additional expertise in the following may be an advantage: T cell cloning; experimentation with human monocyte-derived dendritic cells and iPSC, advanced skills in R and/ or MATLAB, mass-spectrometry, fundoscopy in mice.
