Davidson College

The Davidson College Biology Department invites applications for two visiting assistant professor positions, the first a 2-yr appointment in organismal biology, ecology, and/or biostatistics, and the second a 1-yr appointment in biochemistry, both beginning 01 July 2021. We seek individuals with demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching, which includes fostering inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.

The area of specialization for the 2-yr position is open and may include evolution, ecology, behavior, conservation biology, or related fields. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in biology (or related field) by June 2021, ability, experience, and interest in teaching biostatistics, introductory organismal biology, and courses in ecology/behavior/evolution. The annual teaching load is five courses over two semesters, which will be met through a combination of an introductory organismal biology course plus lab (BIO114; counts for two courses), a biostatistics course (BIO240), and/or an upper-level course in the candidate’s area of expertise.

The area of specialization for the 1-yr position should be in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in biology (or related field) by June 2021, ability and interest in teaching introductory biology and an upper-level biochemistry laboratory, and teaching experience in introductory cell/molecular biology. The annual teaching load is five courses over two semesters, which will be met through a combination of an introductory biology course plus lab (BIO113; counts as two courses), biochemistry plus lab (BIO303; counts as two courses), and an upper-level seminar or lecture course in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Apply online only at http://employment.davidson.edu. The positions are open until filled with review of applications beginning 30 January 2021. Application materials will include three documents. One is a concise cover letter with discrete sections describing the candidate’s approach to teaching and a brief overview of research. The second is a statement of the candidate’s potential contributions to Davidson’s institutional commitment to diversity and inclusion. The third is the CV with names and contact information of references included. The initial screening will be based on an evaluation of the candidates’ statement of potential contributions to Davidson’s commitment to diversity and inclusive pedagogy. Inquiries may be sent to Dr. Chris Paradise at chparadise@davidson.edu.
