Postdoctoral Associate
Department of Molecular Pathobiology
NYU College of Dentistry

Description
The NYU Dentistry Department of Molecular Pathobiology is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate. The laboratory is highly focused on studying succinate signaling in health and disease. Previous work and unpublished data from the group has suggested a central role of succinate signaling via its receptor as well as an intermediate metabolite in the interplay among microbiota, metabolism and host immune response in oral cavity, gut, bone marrow and brain in pathological conditions such as aging and diabetes. The laboratory utilizes multiple approaches involving cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, histology in conjunction with transgenic and surgical interventions in mice. An opportunity is available to study the role of succinate signaling in inflammaging by performing fecal transplantation and bone marrow transplantation in young and aged mice using two newly generated tissue specific knockout mouse models. We support individuals to pursue their own ideas in a very supportive environment.

Qualifications
We are seeking creative and highly motivated individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment and gain experiences in developing independent research projects.

Applicants must hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree with less than 3 years of postdoctoral experience. Preferred expertise includes animal handling and injections (such as gavage and Intracerebroventricular injection), primary cultures, quantitative data analysis, major biochemistry and cell biology techniques related to host immune response and/or neurophysiology.

Qualified candidates should have:
• A Ph.D. in Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology or a related field.
• Excellent experimental and organization skills.
• Familiarity with flow cytometry and bone marrow transplantation is preferred.
• Ability to communicate scientific material and work well in a collaborative environment.
