Overview:

The Center for Immunobiology of the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine invites applications for two Post-Doctoral Fellow research positions in the laboratory of Dr. Yu Zhang. The focus of the Zhang lab is to identify mechanisms that promote antibody diversification and suppress associated oncogenic lesions in B lymphocytes. Antibody diversification generates the numerous antibodies in human body and plays a pivotal role in protecting us from infectious diseases and cancer. Abnormal antibody diversification underlies diseases ranging from immunodeficiency to autoimmunity and contributes to oncogenic translocations in various leukemias and lymphomas. The Zhang lab is particularly interested in how chromatin status and genome architecture collaboratively contribute to the protective and pathogenic effect of antibody diversification. Projects will employ cell lines and mouse models with a variety of state of art approaches, including CRIPSR/Cas9 mediated genome manipulation and various next generation sequencing techniques.  The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to closely collaborate with experts in immunology, molecular biology and bioinformatics.

The successful candidate is expected to carry out and publish cutting edge original research based on themes current in the Zhang Lab, and to contribute to establishing and promoting a successful research environment.

Qualifications:

• PhD in immunology, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology or biochemistry.
• At least one first-author or co-first author research paper on peer-reviewed journals.

Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
