Shenyang University of Technology (SUT) is an engineering-centered, application-oriented and multidisciplinary university. Founded in 1949, the university was originally named Shenyang Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, affiliated to the former National Ministry of Machinery and Industry. In 1985 it was renamed as Shenyang University of Technology. Since 1998 it has been jointly sponsored by the central and local governments and administered mainly by Liaoning Province. SUT has been selected by Liaoning Province as a key university with a high potential to compete in the country’s construction plan of world-class universities and first-class disciplines.

SUT is made up of 22 schools, 2 teaching departments and 2 engineering training centers, and it offers 63 undergraduate programs. Currently, it is home to about 35,870 students, including 18,674 undergraduate students, 4,961 postgraduate students and 549 doctoral students. The university has 5 first-level disciplines authorized to offer doctoral degree and 20 first-level disciplines to offer master’s degree. It has one national key secondary discipline (Electrical Machines and Apparatus), 4 provincial first-class disciplines supported by the project of building top class universities in Liaoning Province (Electrical Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, Material Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering), and 4 postdoctoral research stations (Electrical Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, Material Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering). SUT also offers 10 professional degrees: Master of Finance, Master of Electronic Information, Master of Machinery, Master of Materials and Chemical Engineering, Master of Energy Power, Master of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering, Master of Accounting, Master of Business Administration, Master of Engineering Management and Master of Resources and Environment.

SUT adheres to the strategy of strengthening the school with talents and attaches great importance to talent acquisition. Currently the university has 240 professors, 375 associate professors, 492 lecturers and 78 academic pacesetters in their chosen field of study. Teachers with master’s and doctor’s degrees account for 91 % of all the faculty members. 49.92 % of the full-time teachers are professors or associate professors. There are 2 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering; 2 selectees of National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Program; 3 Leading Talents of Science and Technology Entrepreneurship under the National Ten Thousand People Plan, one member of the “100 Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 18 Winners of Special Government Allowance of the State Council. SUT has a large number of high-level scientific research platforms, including the National Engineering and Technology Center and the National University Science and Technology Park. It has carried out exchanges programs or established partnerships with more than 70 countries.
