Unique Postdoctoral Training Program
As a Provost's Early Career Fellow, you will join an energetic community of other incoming fellows training in different departments across the university. In Biomedical Engineering, we have designed a 3-year program where you will be mentored in all the different dimensions that make an assistant tenure- track professor successful. A major research focus for our program this year is health and healthcare disparities, particularly in the core strengths of our program in cardiovascular systems, cancer, and regnerative medicine.

Fellows selected for this 3-year program will receive a competitive stipend, fringe benefits, relocation funds, travel funds, and discretionary research funds. Throughout the duration of the program, you will also participate in university-wide training provided by the Provost's Office to further develop the skills to build a unique research and teaching portfolio. This will be complemented by a departmental mentoring program including a triad mentoring team for each fellow that includes: 1) primary BME research mentor; 2) health inequity or healthcare disparity mentor from Dell Medical School, School of Human Ecology, the Population Research Center, or other relevant program; 3) Cockrell engineering faculty member outside of BME with complementary research interests. Fellows will complete the research training portion of their fellowship in a primary BME faculty member's laboratory. This research training will be complemented by summer internships with a health inequity research mentor. The departmental mentoring program will include participation in a proposal writing group and mentored course development on Healthcare Disparities. Fellows will gain experience in course content development, content delivery, and pedagogical tools to enhance student engagement. In the final year of the fellowship program, fellows will be invited to apply for an open, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria
Required qualifications include a doctorate in engineering or a related field by June 1, 2021, demonstrated research excellence in biomedical research, and commitment to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level. Candidates are also expected to have a strong interest in mentoring the new generation of leaders in biomedical engineering, undergraduate and graduate teaching in biomedical engineering, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sciences for the professoriate. Additionally, we seek applicants who have a desire to build collaborations with Dell Medical School and the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes, as well as other regional medical centers.
