Shantou University (STU), located in Shantou, Guangdong, China, founded in 1981 with the approval of the National Council, is a comprehensive university under the jurisdiction of the Guangdong Province. It is a pilot university implementing the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, a university shortlisted for the "New Engineering Research and Practice Project" of the Ministry of Education, a university constructed as a "Characteristic Key Discipline Project" of China, a university that was awarded funding under the Top-tier University Development Funding Program of Guangdong Province for key disciplines, a university enrolling international students in China receiving scholarship from Chinese government, a national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, and a Demonstration University for Institutional Reform in Guangdong. Shantou University was co-developed by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province, and Li Ka Shing Foundation.

The University has set up the School of Liberal Arts, School of Science, School of Engineering, School of Medicine, Law School, Business School, Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, Cheung Kong School of Journalism and Communication, School of Public Health, School of International Education, School of Marxism and School of Continuing Education. The University now recruits doctoral students, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students from all over the country (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions). With nearly 40 years of development, Shantou University has been adhering to internationalized and refined education, and has achieved excellent results in various aspects including talents development, scientific research, serving the society, cultural inheritance, and international cooperation. Moreover, the University ranks among the most advanced domestic universities in terms of teaching and scientific research experimental equipment. Having been continuing to expand the international influence, the University has been shortlisted for the world’s authoritative university rankings for many times, entered the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021 and ranked the 51^rd among the listed universities in mainland China.

Due to the development needs, Shantou University keeps recruiting high-level talents. The announcement is now issued as follows:

I. Recruiting positions

(I) Academic Leader: Top-level experts who have international influence, forward-looking strategic conception and innovation capabilities and organization and management capabilities, as well as are good at building innovative teams and training youth talents. Such experts should be able to lead teams to catch up with and surpass the international and domestic advanced level in the disciplines or frontier fields.

(II) Distinguished talent: Well-known experts who have outstanding research and innovation capabilities and have achieved high-level scientific research or teaching performance recognized by peer experts at home and abroad. Such talents should be able to achieve breakthrough and landmark results in their fields of discipline.

(III) Top-tier talent: High-level talents who have achieved high academic attainments, and have made outstanding achievements or engaged in pioneering frontier research projects. Such talents should possess huge development potential.

(IV) Excellent talent (Level II): High-level talents who have a relatively high academic level or have made outstanding scientific research and teaching achievements.

(V) Excellent talent (Level I): Faculty with great development potential.

II. Required qualifications

(1) The candidate should be dedicated and committed to the job, have good professional ethics and teaching style as a teacher, and with good teamwork.

(2) The candidate should have a doctorate degree from a well-known university in China or a foreign country.

(3) The candidate should have strong scientific research and teaching abilities.

(4) The candidate  should have good physical and mental health and is able to work in full time.

Remuneration Package for talents recruited under the "Shantou University (STU) Outstanding Talents Funding Program"

Academic Leader: Annual salary, housing subsidy and scientific research grant are to be negotiated face to face; and relocation fee is RMB 50,000.

Distinguished talent: Annual salary is above RMB 820,000; housing subsidy is RMB 1.2 million; scientific research grant is to be negotiated face to face; and relocation fee is RMB 50,000.

Top-tier talent: Annual salary is above RMB 610,000; housing subsidy is RMB600,000; scientific research grant for science and engineering (experiment) is RMB 1.2 million, for science and engineering (theory) is RMB 750,000, and for humanities & social sciences is RMB 500,000; and relocation fee is RMB 50,000.

Excellent talent (Level II): Annual salary is above RMB 490,000; housing subsidy is RMB 500,000; scientific research grant for science and engineering (experiment) is RMB 800,000, for science and engineering (theory) is RMB 500,000, and for humanities & social sciences is RMB 350,000; and relocation fee is RMB 50,000.

Excellent talent (Level I): Annual salary is above RMB 390,000; housing subsidy is RMB 400,000; scientific research grant for science and engineering (experiment) is RMB 500,000, for science and engineering (theory) is RMB 250,000, and for humanities & social sciences is RMB 150,000; and relocation fee is RMB 50,000.

Benefits for talents not shortlisted for the "Outstanding Talent Program of Shantou University"

Professors: Annual income is above RMB 450,000; housing subsidy is RMB 400,000; scientific research start-up fee for science and engineering (experiment) is RMB 800,000, for science and engineering (theory) is RMB 500,000, and for humanities & social sciences is RMB 350,000; and relocation payment is RMB 50,000.

Associate professors: Annual income is above RMB 380,000; housing subsidy is RMB 350,000; scientific research start-up fee for science and engineering (experiment) is RMB 500,000, for science and engineering (theory) is RMB 250,000, and for humanities & social sciences is RMB 150,000; and relocation payment is RMB 50,000.

Lecturers (PhD): Annual income is above RMB 350,000; housing subsidy is RMB 300,000; scientific research start-up fee for science and engineering (experiment) is RMB 250,000, for science and engineering (theory) is RMB 150,000, and for humanities & social sciences is RMB 100,000; and relocation payment is RMB 50,000.

Note: The above remuneration packages are only applicable to newly introduced eligible teachers.
