Associate/Assistant Professor in Marine Biology & Ecology, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami

The Department of Marine Biology and Ecology at the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) is seeking candidates for Associate or Assistant Professor in Marine Microbial Ecology. Candidates should have research experience in marine microbiomes and the interactions between marine microbial communities and marine ecosystems. Strengths in microbial dynamics and community interactions using current genomic tools to characterize microbial assemblages are essential. An interest in the responses to climate change and other environmental impacts in the marine/estuarine environment is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with the newly established Institute for Data Science and Computing at UM which includes one of the top academic supercomputing facilities in the US.

The Department of Marine Biology and Ecology consists of 16 faculty working in ecology of coral reefs and other marine and estuarine systems, and on the genomics, physiology, toxicology, neurophysiology, immunology and diseases of marine fish and invertebrates (https://marine-biology-ecology.rsmas.miami.edu/index.html). The Department has an active PhD and MS program and a large undergraduate program. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, appropriate postdoctoral training, a strong publication record and be able to demonstrate ongoing sources of extramural support for their research programs (Associate Professor) or a strong funding potential (Assistant Professor). Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the graduate and undergraduate academic programs of the department through teaching, mentorship and advising of both graduate and undergraduate students.

The Department of Marine Biology and Ecology recognizes that good science and innovation need different approaches and points of view that can only be achieved through diversity. We encourage diverse applicants to apply and we are continuously striving to create an environment where everyone feels empowered to be their full, authentic selves. The successful candidate must have a clearly articulated vision of how their work at RSMAS will contribute to the University’s continuing mission of serving the needs of historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities in higher education.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, separate statements of research, and teaching interests which also describe a vision towards facilitating diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as the names and contact information of at least three references to https://umiami.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/UMFaculty/job/Miami-FL/Associate-Assistant-Professor-in-Marine-Biology---Ecology_R100043423 . The position will remain opened until filled, but to receive full consideration, applications should be received by January 15, 2021. We anticipate conducting interviews for the position in February and March, 2021 with an anticipated start date of August 2021. Questions may be directed to MBEsearch@rsmas.miami.edu

The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we encourage qualified individuals to apply regardless of race, gender, disability, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or gender expression.
