The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the T.J. Long School of Pharmacy at University of the Pacific invites applications for a postdoctoral research position to study fundamental mechanisms underlying the function and pharmacology of voltage-gated channels. The position will be focused on developing a NIH-funded project for 24 months from the time of hiring. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for carrying out the project, contributing to the design of the experimental approach to be followed, presenting the project’s outcomes in international conferences, and preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Applications will be reviewed as they are received until the position is filled preferentially by the end of the 2020.

The ideal candidate will be a creative and motivated young investigator with a doctoral degree and a strong background in physiology, biochemistry, and/or biophysics. Prior experience with cell culture is preferred but not required. Experience with electrophysiological techniques is highly desirable. Experience with Crispr-Cas9 techniques is also desirable, but not required.

Minimum qualifications:

Have obtained a Ph.D. in Physiology, Biochemistry, or a related field within the past 5 years.

Proficiency in molecular biology, biochemistry, or organic chemistry.

Training in general physiology or biochemistry.

Candidates with previous postdoctoral experience must have at least one peer-reviewed publication as first or senior author in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred qualifications:

Training in ion channel biophysics or molecular physiology.

Experience with voltage-clamp techniques.

Experience with cell culture.
