The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking qualified applicants for the Norfleet-Raney Distinguished Professorship and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Orthopaedics.  Qualified applicants are expected to have an outstanding research record with extramural funding and leadership skills to develop a strong multidisciplinary collaborative musculoskeletal research program.  This will involve integrating research in the department with groups at UNC having strong musculoskeletal programs including the Thurston Arthritis Research Center, Exercise and Sports Science, Cell Biology and Physiology, the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Biomedical Engineering (a joint program with NC State Engineering providing unique opportunities for collaboration across campuses).  The position will include a joint appointment in the department, center and/or school most appropriate for the professor’s specific discipline. UNC has a very strong research infrastructure. External research funding surpasses more than $1B and the School of Medicine (SOM) is ranked #6 among public medical schools for NIH funding with 18 departments ranked in the top 25 and all basic science departments ranked in the top 10. UNC’s 36 Centers and Programs support interdisciplinary research with more than 80 state-of-the-art cores across the SOM and campus. UNC is also home to the NC Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute, supported by a Clinical and Translational Science Award from NIH since 2008. UNC is also a leader in imaging with the Biomedical Research Imaging Center providing researchers with access to a wide array of cutting-edge technologies for human imaging, animal imaging and cyclotron/radiochemistry.
